What to Look for When Choosing a Senior Care Facility, Pt. 2

The Secure Aging team interviewed Michelle Williams, Communications Specialist at Aviva: A Campus for Senior Life, to discuss the benefits of senior care facilities and when families should start planning. This is the second part of a two part series about senior care facilities here. Learn more about choosing the right care facility for your loved one in "What to Look for When Choosing a Senior Care Facility, Pt. 2"

SA: When do think is the best time to start considering senior care for yourself or a loved one?

MW: The best time to start considering senior care is when you or your loved one are still in good health. There is nothing more difficult than having to make a decision because of injury or risk of injury. At Aviva, we stress that you or your loved one should take the time to weigh options and access your needs in senior care, speak to a senior living specialist, and discuss with your loved ones what the best plan of action would be.

SA: How does Aviva offer affordable care as health changes?

MW: Aviva is Sarasota’s only rental senior campus offering all levels of living options: Independent Living, Assisted Living & Memory Care, Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation. As a not-for-profit organization with a reverence for life and a belief in its dignity, we create and sustain non-exclusionary communities where seniors can live life to the fullest, answering their needs for quality housing, financial peace of mind, wellness, safety and spiritual fulfillment.

SA: What is the most common care level at Aviva, and why do you think that is?

MW: The most common level of care is our Kobernick at Aviva independent living option. The luxurious amenities, family atmosphere, abundant arts and leisure offerings on-site and downtown Sarasota make this a great option for someone who is eager to build lasting friendships and live each day on their own terms.

SA: How do you feel a senior living community benefits seniors?

MW: Senior living communities offer socialization and safe spaces for seniors. With a myriad of activities, lifelong learning opportunities, innovative health and wellness programs senior communities like Aviva are able to engage the mind, body, and spirit of their residents. This helps seniors live life to the fullest with the support they deserve.

SA: What is the most rewarding part of your job?

I find the connections I make with our residents the most rewarding part of my job. I enjoy our conversations and the friendships I have made here at Aviva. Our residents share their life stories and are extremely humorous. It truly is the best part of the day when I visit with our residents.

Secure Aging wants you to be happy and confident in your choice of senior care living.
