Secure Aging Purchased By Melissa Leedom, CPA

Bradenton, FLA. - August 19, 2019 -- Secure Aging, a financial and care management firm founded by Reba Rogers, CPA in 2005 has been purchased by Melissa Leedom, CPA. The company plans to expand on its mission to protect and preserve its clients’ sense of independence and dignity through advocacy and financial and care management.  “The service provided by Secure Aging has an immeasurable impact on seniors & families in our community,” says Ms. Leedom. “As advocates for families in Manatee County and Sarasota County, Secure Aging aims to provide comfort and transparency in financial oversight - an important distinction from service providers who take control of bank accounts and other financial assets. The peace of mind gained by our clients is in high demand across Southwest Florida and beyond, so we’re excited to build on the tremendous potential for growth by investing resources in capacity building.”

After joining the Secure Aging team in early 2019, Ms. Leedom underwent a six-month apprenticeship that included comprehensive training on the company’s operations and strategic plan, in addition to close mentoring and guidance from founder & then-CEO Reba Rogers. On July 31, 2019, Melissa Leedom and a partner company consisting of several siblings completed the purchase of Secure Aging. “I hadn’t given much thought to my business succession plan until I met Melissa,” notes Secure Aging founder Reba Rogers.  “In the back of my mind, I hoped one day I’d meet a CPA who shares my passion for serving seniors, but considered that person something of a unicorn. Upon getting to know Melissa, it was clear that her career experience and compassion made her the ideal candidate to preserve the integrity of Secure Aging and lead our team into the future.” Ms. Leedom and Ms. Rogers were introduced to one another through Ashley Brown, President & CEO of The Women’s Resource Center, an organization that Ms. Leedom and Ms. Rogers both support as volunteers (Reba Rogers is Treasurer of the Board of Directors). Through their apprenticeship, Ms. Rogers was able to transfer as much expertise, both institutionally and in the industry, to Ms. Leedom as possible.  Ms. Rogers plans to continue financial and care management consulting on a semi-retired basis.

Ms. Leedom’s sister, another sibling owner, Jana Hameed, RN, will also join the Secure Aging family. Ms. Hameed, who has worked in the home health industry for more than 20, will lead the company’s growth in care management with plans to offer new services like medication management, by popular client demand. “We are working diligently to ensure a smooth transition for our clients, made possible thanks to the longevity and institutional knowledge of our existing team members, who combined have more than two dozen years experience at Secure Aging. We’re very pleased that 100% of the team has chosen to remain with the company following its sale,” remarks Melissa Leedom.

Ms. Leedom, who holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Drexel University, began her career in Philadelphia, PA with PriceWaterhouseCoopers in Audit and Forensic Consulting. She later joined The Vanguard Group where she held various executive leadership positions during her eleven-year tenure in Finance, Accounting, Strategy, and Risk and Compliance. In 2012 Ms. Leedom moved to Florida to serve as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-President for a small business in the financial technologies space for payments and texting.  During this time, she was responsible for business strategy, sales, marketing, and company operations, where she consistently generated, on average, more than 20% annual revenue growth.
