Secure Aging Participates in Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s disease affects more than 5 million people around the U.S., and someone is diagnosed with it every 65 seconds. Alzheimer’s is a growing disease around the country as our population ages, and there is currently no cure. However, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s events across the U.S. are part of the effort to change this.

Sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s events are held in 600 communities around the U.S. They are the largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research, according to the Alzheimer’s Association.

During the walks, participants can walk with a team and help raise money for Alzheimer’s.

The Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walks began in 1989 and raised $149,000 from nearly 1,250 participants. It has since grown into 65,000 teams that have raised more than $90 million. “The end of Alzheimer’s disease starts here,” the Alzheimer’s Association writes.

The folks at Secure Aging recently took part in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s held at Benderson Park in Sarasota. This special event allowed participants to remember loved ones affected by Alzheimer’s disease. The owners walked because their grandmother, Catherine Leedom, suffered from this terrible disease. “Hearts were broken as their mother and grandmother lost that sparkle in her eye. We walk for all of our clients and families impacted by this devastating disease,” according to Secure Aging owners.

Although the walk is over, there are still ways you can support the ending of Alzheimer’s disease. You can donate to Secure Aging’s team at the link here, and you can find out more about the Walks at the web link here. Your future participation could just help bring a cure to Alzheimer’s disease.
