Solutions to Long-Distance Caregiving

We transform the weight of the world into a sigh of relief for our senior clients and their concerned family members.

The mission of Secure Aging is to protect and preserve our clients' independence and dignity, through careful and thoughtful financial and care management. As our clients age, it is their desire to remain independent and age with dignity. Our services protect our clients from talented con artists looking to exploit and deplete the financial resources of our vulnerable seniors.

Recently, our team chatted with a long-distance caregiver in California who is doing her very best to maintain her in-laws' finances, care and overall well-being. We discussed some of the issues she faces to discover how Secure Aging can help. Perhaps other readers are having similar challenges that we can solve through our services.

It has been 9 years since these family members have seen one another, though they communicate through postal mail, email or telephone. As the elderly in-laws have both reached their 90s it has become apparent that they are in need of additional assistance, including financial and overall care.

Taking Control of Finances

“Currently, they are taking care of their own finances but are in need of help to balance their income against their monthly outlay.”

To remedy situations similar to this, we offer two services. The Basic Service package reviews bills for accuracy; deposits income into bank accounts, and reviews received mail. This helps cut out unnecessary bank fees and gives family members peace of mind. The Enhanced Service package provides all Basic Package services, in addition to monitoring bank and credit cards for fraudulent activity, developing budgets and managing cash flow and assisting to consolidate client assets or help with debt consolidation and payoff.

Meeting Resistance

One of the biggest challenges this long-distance caregiver is facing is resistance from her aging family members. “Resistance of giving up their independence has been difficult. Utilizing a Power of Attorney is becoming necessary while employing their doctors’ help to make this happen.”

Our staff is highly trained to deal with loved ones who are resistant to giving up some of their independence. Beyond their highly-skilled financial backgrounds, our employees boast numerous care management certifications, experience as case managers, and simply having gained experience as support systems to their own aging family members. Getting Care in the House

“At the moment we are trying to institute in home health care, Meals on Wheels, bathing and house cleaning services. Keeping them in their home is our goal and may be attainable.”

With our Advocacy Service, we offer hiring and overseeing home health and other providers, monitor safety and well-being and serving as a health care surrogate. These services are in addition to the others previously mentioned. As more and more service providers enter the home, the risk for financial exploitation increases. Secure Aging will handle the finances so that health care providers can focus on their services.

The Hardest Part

“DISTANCE...not being to sit face to face to talk to them and show affection in their later years.”

We can only imagine what it is like not to be able to see your loved ones, especially as they age. We will do our best to keep them safe and well cared-for as our clients and as your family members.
